The Next GMC Terrain: Here is What we Expect

GMC has revealed a teaser that gives us our first look at the next-generation GMC Terrain, the successor to the brand’s popular compact SUV. Here are some of the things we expect from this new model, which should be fully unveiled later this year.

A Bolder Design

The 2025 GMC Terrain will benefit from a bolder and more assertive design than the current model, with items such as a larger front grill and redesigned LED headlamps, which will still resemble those on the brand’s other models, such as the Sierra pickup and the Yukon full-size SUV. As we can see in the teaser, the rugged AT4 trim level will still be offered on the Terrain, continuing to provide buyers with dynamic looks and increased capabilities when compared to the other models in the lineup.

A refined interior

Since every other GMC and General Motors product that has been refreshed recently benefits from a modernized and more premium interior, we can expect the next GMC Terrain to follow suit. This means that we will likely see new infotainment and driver information screens in the Terrain, including a fully digital instrument cluster, at least in most trim levels. Other improvements to expect include the cutting-edge Google Built-in infotainment system and more advanced driver assistance systems.

A wider body

Since the GMC Terrain shares its underpinnings with the Chevrolet Equinox, we can look at the new 2025 version of this model to get an idea of what is to come for the Terrain. In doing so, we can see that the new Equinox will be six centimeters wider than the outgoing model, which means that the next Terrain is also likely to be widened. This will make it easier to seat five passengers in comfort and it should provide more cargo space than the already generous volume offered by the current model.

A modernized powertrain

The 2025 GMC Terrain is expected to receive a few powertrain upgrades that will help it be more fuel-efficient and smoother to drive than the current model. Once again, we can see this by looking at the new Equinox. This means that we can expect the Terrain to receive a new 8-speed automatic transmission to replace the older nine-speed unit currently in use. Front-wheel drive models could also benefit from a continuously variable transmission to reduce their fuel consumption even further. The engine will likely remain the same 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder that can be found under the hood of the 2024 Terrain.

More details should be available once the 2024 GMC Terrain is officially launched in the coming months.
